Atlanta: San Francisco of the South

Forget about the Southern stereotypes from movies and television and visit the city known as the "San Francisco of the South." Atlanta, Georgia earned this nickname after it became a Mecca for hundreds of thousands of small town gays and lesbians fleeing their rural roots. Fortune 500 corporations made Atlanta their headquarters, which provided the jobs, and urban flight by the heterosexuals provided the affordable inner city homes.

Atlanta Visitors Bureau Welcomes Gays To City For PRIDE & Beyond
The Atlanta Convention & Visitors Bureau celebrates its third year of reaching out to gay and lesbian tourists with special support for the Atlanta Pride celebration, June 25-27. This initiative includes the www.gay-atlanta.com web site, an opt-in e-newsletter, advertising in gay-oriented newspapers throughout the Southeast and collaboration with the annual Atlanta Pride Festival and other events of particular interest to the community.
